John Titus enters his eighth season as head coach of the Caldwell University volleyball team.
 
Last season, Titus guided the Cougars to a 15-17 overall record and finished in second place in the North Division a 12-7 conference mark. Caldwell defeated South Division #3 seed Jefferson 3-1 in the quarterfinals before falling to eventual conference champion Holy Family in the semifinals.
 
In 2018, Titus guided the Cougars to his first CACC Championship and the program’s third overall conference title as they defeated Jefferson 3-1 in the championship match. The Cougars advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinal game, where they fell short to #1 ranked New Haven. Caldwell finished the season with a 25-8 mark and a 16-3 record in the CACC. The Cougars garnered four CACC All-Conference awards, including the CACC Player of the Year earned by senior Katrina Janssen. 
 
In 2014, Titus led the Cougars to a CACC North Division Co-Championship, his second division title while at the helm. The Cougars finished the season with a 22-11 record and went 14-5 in CACC play, and were Co-Champions of CACC North Division, his second title in three seasons. Titus led the Cougars to the CACC Championship game and has guided his team to the CACC Tournament in all three seasons.
 
While at the helm of the Cougars, Titus has coached eight CACC All-Conference selections including the CACC Defensive Player of the Year in 2014 and CACC Player of the Year in 2017. In addition, he has coached six all-region honorees including the ECAC Defensive Player of the Year in 2014, the D2CAA East Region Player of the Year in 2017 and the ECAC Rookie of the Year in 2018. Titus also earned the program’s first All-American honoree as Katrina Janssen earned honorable mention recognition in 2017.
 
Titus came to Caldwell after serving as an assistant at Ramapo College and as the head coach at Parsippany High School. He spent the 2011 season as an assistant coach at Ramapo, helping the Roadrunners advance to the finals of the New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament. Prior to Ramapo, Titus coached for six seasons at Parsippany High School, where his teams qualified for the state tournament five times. During his time at Parsippany, he received the American Volleyball Coaches Association 30 Under 30 Award, which recognizes the top 30 coaches in the country under the age of 30.
 
Titus also has coached at Atlantic Valley Volleyball Club for the past eight years. He led his 17-and-under squad to the 2013 USAVB Junior Nationals in Columbus, Ohio. Additionally, Titus has been on the coaching staff at the Garden Empire Volleyball Association High Performance program since 2007.
 
Titus is a member of the AVCA Division II Top 25 Poll Committee serving on the committee since 2012. He is also part of the AVCA East Region Division II Committee since 2012 and is the current chair of the East Regional Division II Chair since 2015. Titus is also a member of the AVCA All American Division II Committee since 2015.
 
A native of Rockaway, N.J., Titus graduated from the College of New Jersey in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science degree in history. This past May he earned a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from Centenary College. Along with his coaching duties, Titus is fourth grade teacher at Stony Brook School in Rockaway.

The AVCA presented the inaugural Thirty Under 30 Awards in 2009.  This award was created to honor thirty of the up-and-coming volleyball coaches under 30 years old in the sport at all levels of the game.  Although anyone can make a nomination, the nominee has to be an AVCA member.  The inaugural Thirty Under 30 class was announced in the February/March 2009 edition of Coaching Volleyball.
