15 White in Atlantic City

By . 03/15/2017, 1:00pm EDT

Atlantic City came alive this past weekend (March 11-12), when AVVC 15 White arrived in town! The Jersey Surfside Festival was underway and we were ready. We started Saturday at 8am with pool play, and finished second, winning two out of three of our matches which allowed us to advance to the challenge rounds. These challenge matches determined whether we would advance to the gold or silver division. After a grueling game the adrenaline was really pumping and we dominated the second match to push our way into the silver division. Woohoo!

After 13 hours at the venue on Saturday, we arrived on Sunday morning dazed and confused, like we never left. We felt like wounded warriors determined to fight to the end and so we began our silver division playoffs. The first match was a blur except that unfortunately there were a few team member injuries which resulted in some substitutions for our second match. We fought to the end and proudly finished third in the silver bracket.

15 White in Rahway

By Cherie Ma 02/21/2017, 8:45am EST

Gray clouds rolled over the Rahway Recreation center on the morning of February 12th. The brick building itself didn’t stand out, especially at 7:30am on a Sunday. The desolate parking lot was lined with snow from a few days ago; however within a few minutes cars began to pull in. By 8am the parking lot was already on it’s way to being completely filled. Most of the town was still under warm covers, but in the building were teams of girls, some who might have gotten up at 6am, excited and preparing for a day of volleyball.
If you would have turned left and gone to the end of the hallway you would have seen 12 fourteen-year-old girls, myself included, ready to go warm up to play the first match of four on Court 1. This is the AVVC 15 White team, at our third tournament of the season. Our first game was against the 15 regional team of CJ Heat. Both teams were already warming up when the referee called for captains. Of course, we won the coin toss
