With three second place finishes so far in the 2011 season, it was a well deserved victory when 14 National clinched first place at the AVVC 14 tournament. Inferno started the morning off with a big bang beating both Alpha Gamma 14 Kaepa (25-21, 25-20) and Digs 13 Red (25-16, 25-10). In both morning games, middles Cienna Herlihy and Stephanie Occhiogrosso picked apart the opposing teams’ serve receive with Cienna firing off 17 serves with 6 aces and Stephanie 20 serves with 8 aces. Setter, Kelsey Tam, and outside hitter, Kristen Wainwright, were both on fire topping the charts with assists and kills!

As Inferno advanced into their final pool play match, they dominated United 14 in the first set 25-8 but unfortunately dropped the subsequent two sets 18-25 and 8-15. As they advanced to the playoffs, only one team stood between them and the championship game. The team that stood in their way, AVVC 14 Regional. After a good battle for possession of the game, Inferno got their act together and pulled ahead to clinch the win (25-22, 25-18). Setter Emily Eng, worked flawlessly together with outside hitter, Gabby Savite, playing the ball high enough so Gabby could dominate the net with her powerful swings.

Carrying their momentum from the previous win, Inferno was set to play Alpha Gamma one more time. After demolished Alpha Gamma 14 Kaepa (25-15) in the first set and an unexpected loss in the second set (19-25), Inferno dug deep and worked together to clinch a ‘W’ in the third set, ending the game 15-11. It was their team effort proved to be the golden ticket to winning the game. Kristen Wainwright, Sydney Dazzo, Cienna Herlihy, and Gabby Savite were relentless with their attacks. Tory Lai rallied off a total of 18 serves and Mara Giga kept all balls in play. Jordyn Gill’s hustle and dedication in the backrow gave Inferno’s setters, Olivia Manning, Emily Eng and Kelsey Tam, the perfect passes they needed.

Congratulations to Inferno on their well deserved win!
