Our 17 National Team put up another great tournament performance this weekend at the GEVA 18 Open tournament at Powerzone.  Following their fantastic showing at Capitol Hill, the “Wolfpack” set their sights on our region’s 18’s teams.

In their first pool, our 17 National team started their morning with a win against Lady Chargers 18’s.  Soon after, they followed up with a win against NYC Juniors 18’s.  Their final pool play match was against Downstate 18 Black who held the top spot in GEVA rankings in the 18’s division.  Attempting to match the speed of their opponent, AVVC 17 National fell short, losing in 2 sets.  With a 2-1 record, the “Wolfpack” claimed second in the pool and a trip to the GEVA 18 Open playoffs.

Knowing they had some challenges ahead, our 17 National team set their sights on going deep into the playoffs and a potential rematch with Downstate 18 Black.  In the quarterfinals, the “Wolfpack” faced off against CALI 18 Asics.  A tight battle ensued with our 17 National team pulling out a win in 2.  Next up was a semifinal matchup against a strong ECC 18 National team.  Battling from behind, the “Wolfpack” went for a change in strategy.  With the team committed to the strategy, our 17 National team dug deep and won in 2 sets.

This put our AVVC 17 National team in the finals against Downstate 18 Black.  Rematch!  With a slightly different approach to their opponent, the “Wolfpack” came ready to battle.  Inches away from pure blocks and crushing line shots, our 17 National team put up a fight but ended up succumbing in 2.

Overall, another great success for our AVVC 17 National Team.  2nd in GEVA 18 Open!
