When all the dust settles team Fury reclaims the top spot of GEVA 18's

GEVA Regional Finals, West Windsor, NJ May 3, 2015

It was a winning day for AVVC 18’s-Team Fury as the team ensconced itself in the winner’s bracket and posted a 4-0 record in the final round of GEVA Championships.

We started out strong as we defeated West Windsor Volleyball Club (2512, 2515). From the opening serve, the offense was running swiftly and smoothly and the defense was covering the court.

Next we were on to DIGS, our longtime rivals and supposedly the team to ultimately beat for the title.   DIGS was a worthy opponent and halfway into the first set we were down by eight points.  Every play challenged our girls to push harder. Finally overcoming the deficit, Fury tied it up at 20-20.  The game ended at 25-23 with the second set also being close at 25-21. At the end of the match it was clear to both sides that there would likely be a rematch later in the day.

Next, came an arduous match against Downstate, the only team that would take a set from us all day (2325,2513,1511)  In the end, we were victorious with a 15-11 win in the deciding third set.

Meanwhile on the next court, our rival DIGS was making its way to the final round, as anticipated.

Late afternoon rolled around and the last teams standing were DIGS and AVVC; it was time to prove ourselves again.

In the first game, AVVC handily carved out a 6 point lead. However, just as easily it became an 8 point deficit.  Coaches Thony and Amable strategized from the sidelines and did their best to advise and encourage the team. Again, we tied it up at a crucial moment and forged ahead to win 2521. Game two was close from the start as our defense fought hard to thwart the efforts of our northern adversaries.  We traded points all the way into the 20’s.   A recipe of tough serving, hits ranging from thunderous kills to skillful off-speed shots, and an unrelenting defense won out in the end 25-23. Fury took set two!

Put it in the books, AVVC 18 is GEVA’s number one team in 2015!

Congratulations to our awesome players and their wonderful coaches Thony and Amable!
