ELENA SCARANO, WESTFIELD

JUST THE FACTS: Elena Scarano is a four year letterman for volleyball and excels at the defensive side of the game. She put her defense on display last week and was among the state's leaders with 15.7 digs per match. As team captain, she stepped up when Westfield faced off against Roselle Catholic, which is ranked No. 13 in The Star-Ledger Top 20, and had 28 digs in a three-set upset victory over its Union County rival. With Scarano running the back court, Westfield is 7-0 on the season. She is not a one sport athlete and was Union County's Player of the Year in softball last season.
