After rough weekends in Baltimore and Yorktown where the Vipers played some tough teams, the team was looking forward to a winning tournament. The Vipers started the day off strong with wins against Revolution (25-21 and 25-11), CALI (CALI 25-16 and 25-17) and Apex (25-12 and 25- 8). The last match in pool play was against CJVA 15 Black who was ranked first in the pool. CJVA was a strong serving and defensive team. The girls were unable to pull together and ended up losing to CJVA with the scores of 18-25 and 20-25. The Vipers came out second in their pool allowing them to advance to the play offs.

The first playoff match was against the top ranked Downstate 15 Black team whom AVVC 15 Red team had previously played three times with its only win at the GEVA Open Tournament at Powerzone.   During the first playoff game, the Vipers were unable to keep up with Downstate and lost 10-25. After that game, the team encouraged each other to play better and came out in the second game showing a totally different team.  There were great defensive plays, hard hits and strong blocking at the net!  The Vipers made a complete turn around and ended up winning the next two games with scores of 25-20 and 15-9. AVVC 15 was going the FINALS!!!

In the finals, AVVC had to once again face CJVA 15 Black. Both teams were exhausted from the long day, but battled hard against each other with many long rallies. The Vipers continued with strong offensive and defensive plays which resulted in a win against CJVA 15 Black (25-22 and 26-24). What a great feeling to win at the AVVC Invitational!  The gym was filled with loud cheers and whistles from the team’s parents and supporters! Huge thanks to Coach Titus, Coach Julie, and Coach Erica for helping us along our roller coaster ride. Also a huge thanks to our parents and supporters for always encouraging and cheering us on. The Vipers can’t wait for their next tournament in Muhlenberg.
