Riptide Places Second at the Warren 16 Mix Tournament

After winning the third place at the #1 GEVA 16 Club tournament a week ago, team Riptide  was ready to put on another show on 3/3 at the Warren 16 Mix held in Georian Court University at Lakewwod, NJ. So they did. As the #1 seed in pool B, team Riptide beat the #3 seeded East Coast Crush team 2-0 eventlessly. The next match was against Garden State VBC. Team Riptide tried a new lineup in the first set and had a bumpy start 0-9. However, with confidence and patience, the girls were able adjust, and eventually took the set 25-21. The girls didn't give the oppenent any chance in the second set, and took it 25-10. The last match was against the #2 seeded Pride team. After a long wait (work plus off for total of two matches), it took the girls some time to find their rhythm in the first set, winning it 25-22. They went on beating the team in the second set comfortably, and winning the pool with a 6-0 record.

The first playoff match was against the #2 finisher of pool A, Phoenix NJ  16 Red. Team Riptide had a lot of trouble stopping its middle attacks and dealing with its tall blockers, ended up giving the first set of the day. However, team Riptide quickly gathered themselves up in the second set and  garnered a fantastic 6-0 start. The girls played great through out the set, never letting the opponent to catch up. 1 set for each. It all came down to the 15 point deciding set to decide which team was going to advance to the final. The battle was intense. Team Riptide managed the 8-5 lead before changing the courts. However, Phoenix wasn't going to give up and gradually caught up. 11-11, 12,-12, 13-13. The mounting pressure eventually broke the other team. With two mistakes in a row, they lost their chance to advance to the final.

The final was against the Alpha Gamma club's 16 Delta team, the club's 16-1 team. Came into this match as a clear underdog, team Riptide was able to battle point by point from 1-1, 2-2, and all the way to 24-24, losing the set 24-26. Although our team lost the match eventually, but they girls had every reason to hold their heads high. It was another great tournament for the team!
