This weekend, the team traveled to Washington D.C., to compete in the 2013 Capitol Hill Classic. With the opportunity to play at a higher age group, nobody knew what to expect. The girls started Saturday versus SPARKS VBC 17 Club and managed to get to a 2-0 victory. Moving on to Velocity 17-1, AVVC played great volleyball and maintained a high level of play throughout a 2-0 route. The final opponent for the day was DIGS 17 White. Moving forward, the team set themselves up for another gold or silver bracket opportunity, finishing the day 3-0 in match play and doing it in style with a 6-0 set record.

Sunday morning was a little more of a challenge. Playing teams that seeded either first or second in the prior day, the girls started out playing WVC 17 American. Struggling a little in the beginning, the girls managed to rally and win in an exciting 2-1 match. Moving on to WLVBC 17 Rage, AVVC won 2 more sets 25-18, 25-14. With first place on their minds, the final opponent CAVC 17 Elite was the only thing in their way. With a high-octane start to the match, AVVC managed to get an impressive 1-0 start with a 25-9 set win. The opponent would come back firing with a different look, and an exciting 25-22 victory was on display. 16 Red managed to make it to the gold bracket with an impressive 6-0 match play and 12-1 set record throughout the 2-day pool play.

Monday morning, the coaches were curious where we would stand in the division, and the girls ultimately answered with a semifinal journey. Hardrock 17 Black was the first opponent in our round of 16s, and the team started off with a 2-0 set win. Moving on to the Round of 8, where the girls were playing local competition: WWVBC 17-1. The team managed to showcase an offensive show and the steady ball control lead them to a 2-0 win going on to the semi-finals. The semi finals were a tough matchup, whereas they ran into CVVC 16 Blue, which ultimately won the division. The team fought hard, but Coastal’s defense managed to come up on top in a 18-25, 18-25 loss.

That lead to a tie for third place in the 17 Club division, and the girls went to the Championship desk to receive their trophy as well as medals. Thank you to our chaperones for handling the fast pace environment of Washington D.C, and as always, a special thank you to our parents and fans for coming to watch us play all weekend.
