At the first 3 day tournament of the season, the MLK Kickoff Classic, our AVVC 17-1 Red Team came out hot!  With a very tough first pool, “Force” started up the day with a matchup against DVA 17 National.  After dropping the first set 22-25, our 17 Red team woke up and won the next 2 sets, 25-20, 15-12.  Next on the list was against our local rival Downstate 17 Black.  With some mysterious ref calls against both squads, the “Force” prevailed in 3 once again, winning 25-22, 13-25, 15-6.  Wanting to stay undefeated in pool play, AVVC 17-1 Red faced off against Revolution York 17 White in the final match.  Feeling hungry and wanting to get out of the gym, our 17 Red team disposed of Revolution York 17 White in 2 quick sets, 25-15, 25-14.  3-0 in pool play, first in the pool and most importantly, staying in the upper Gold/Silver bracket!

Achieving their first goal of staying in the upper bracket, our AVVC 17 Red team knew they were in for a challenge on day 2 where the competition would get even tougher.  With one of their middles going down 3 points into the first set against ECC 17 Black, the “Force” regrouped nicely but ended up dropping in 23-25, 25-17, 12-15.  With players shifting and having new roles, the “Force” was a bit out of sorts and ended up dropping to Pittsburgh Elite 17 Premier and Sportime 17 Gold.

In the Silver bracket, our AVVC 17 Red team came out smoking hot facing off against LI Fury 17’s.  The “Force” were ripping serves and getting aces left and right, winning in 2 25-8, 25-22.  Next up was Revolution Lehigh Valley 17 White.  A tough battle ensued, with our AVVC 17-1 Red team dropping 18-25, 22-25.  Overall a nice weekend for our AVVC 17 Red team.  Playing high level volleyball and adapting to new situation and roles, our “Force” will only continue to get better.  17th overall out of 44 teams.
