Whether they go by “Rampage”, “The Rug-rats”, or “The Wolf Pack”, 14 Red caught everyone’s eye at the New Year’s Classic this weekend. The girls went 3-2 for the day, placing first in their pool and finishing second in the tournament overall. With successful wins against NYC Juniors, Readington, and Downstate, their two losses were to Academy 13-1s, a team that has played together for several years. Besides playing in the finals, the highlight of their day was beating the Downstate’s 14-1s team in the semifinals, a long time Atlantic Valley rival. When Coach Feliciano challenged these girls to turn their fate around in the second set of the match, 14 Red retaliated by not giving up and winning the deciding set. As the final match took “center-court” at Downstate Athletic Center last night, 14 Red took the floor ready for redemption against a solid Academy 13-1s team. Though their bout was unsuccessful by score, the girls stuck together and competed with more integrity than they had in their prior match against Academy. Throughout the day, the girls built teamwork and were able to come together when necessary. While it was the first of many tournaments, 14 Red made a statement through their play this weekend. For them, this is only the beginning.
