Atlantic Valley 17 National team, aka 17 Red, aka “Knights”, aka “Sasquatch” continued their winning ways in Center Moriches, NY on Sunday with a dominating performance at the GEVA 17 Open.

With small injuries and illnesses, our 17 National team showed their depth going undefeated all day 10-0!  In the morning pool, the “Knights” started off strong against Phoenix 17 Red winning 25-14, 25-14.  They then followed up with two more 2 set sweeps against LIBA 17 Black winning 25-14, 25-19, and a 25-17, 25-21 victory over Sportime 17 Gold.

Hoping not to have a 9pm departure like at previous tournaments, our 17 National team had one mindset, to win the entire tournament!  In the quarterfinals of playoffs, the “Knights” squared off against MEU 17 Gold.  With crisp passing, a quick offense, and stellar serving, 17 National disposed of MEU 25-13, 25-17. 

Encountering AllStarr 17-1 in the semifinals forced our AVVC 17 National team to be focused on defending specific hitters.  With well placed serves and numerous digs, the “Knights” controlled the game and took away a 25-17 victory.

In the finals, AVVC 17 National knew they were in for a fight against Academy 17-1.  With a commitment to defense preached by their coach, the “Knights” responded beautifully.  A tight match ensued til the crossover at 13, then the 17 National team locked down on their blocking, defensive drops and digs.  A nice serving run opened the game up and gave our Atlantic Valley 17 National Team the championship victory 25-19!

Undefeated! 10-0! What a team effort!  Bring on MAPL in Virginia this weekend!
