Throughout the MLK weekend, 16 Regional West, Rampage, showed their dedication and determination to their team and club. A main part of the weekend for Rampage was team bonding. With a dinner to The Smorgasbord, gathering together to watch the big Giants game, and even a prank war with the coaches, it was obvious that the girls and coaches were starting to really become close to one another. As there was a lot of bonding off the court, there was even more on the court. The girls were able to learn how to work together and be a real team.
The first day of the MLK Classic was a great start for Rampage. The team won their first match of the day, defeating Lava 16 Gold 25-21 and 25-20. The second team that they played proved to be a little bit more difficult, dropping the first set to Platform 16’s 20-25. However, Rampage answered by taking the second set 25-13 and then won the third set as well, 15-12. Rampage fell short in their third match of the day, losing by close scores of 22-25, 29-27 and 12-15 to CT Impact 16 Red. This loss forced a three-way tie in the pool and forced the team to have to play in a challenge match. The first challenge match they met up with Lava 16 Gold again, and with no hesitation, Rampage beat them to take on CT Impact 16 Red again. Unfortunately CT Impact proved to be too much for Rampage to handle, giving the girls a second place finish and a chance to compete for the gold and silver bracket on day two.
On the second day the team wasn’t able to conquer the opposing teams, but they fought and played like there was no tomorrow. Rampage dropped their first match of the day to a tough Essex 16 Black team 22-25 and 12-25. The second match of the day was against Highline 16 Blue, and Rampage bounced back from a tough loss nicely, winning the first set 25-18. Highline then became a little bit more competitive winning the second and third set by the scores of 23-25 and 12-15. Having to play Revolution CHAMB Blue immediately after a tough loss, Rampage still wanted to fight to get their first win of the day, winning the first set 27-25. The second set was another nail-biter, but Rampage dropped the second set 25-27. Again going into another 3 set match, Rampage held the lead for most of the game, but couldn’t come out on top, falling 12-15. Rampage was then placed into the silver bracket.
Unfortunately on Monday, Rampage experienced a tough defeat to Valley Forge, 18-25 and 23-25. Although the team had to leave, they took with them a fun and entertaining experience. Rampage was able to see what necessities they need to work on and will use their experience to become and even more amazing team. Let’s go Rampage!
