Well Done Witt!

LINDSAY WITT, RIDGE
Senior middle blocker, 6-1

JUST THE STATS: All-around game highlighted by powerful blocks, ability to mix up hits, stellar jump float and side jump float serves as well as strong serve receiver. Witt has contributed an average of 5.6 kills, 2.8 blocks, 2.5 digs in leading Ridge to a 13-2 record a No. 9 rank in The Star-Ledger Top 20 and the top seed in the Somerset County Tournament this week, where the team will be seeking a second-straight title after capturing its first in school history last year.

UNIFORM NUMBER: 4.

COACHES COMMENT: "Lindsay is a unique middle blocker because she not only hits and blocks well, she is also one of the best all-around ball handlers on the team. She is a hard worker and wants to get better every day. I am looking forward to the end of the year, I think she is capable of something very special." --coach Joanne Milot

ON VOLLEYBALL: "You have a split second to do everything and just have to go with your gut in choosing what to do, with a block, or see where to hit. I try to focus on ending the point as soon as possible and never giving up, keep diving for every ball no matter how tired I may get."

BIGGEST WEAPON: Powerful blocks. "I jump high and put my whole body into it to push it back over the net. When I jump, I try to stay up as long as I can to knock it straight down."

ON HITTING: "I can place my hits to any spot, to the back row, outside, opposite. I cut my hand to send it to one side or the other. Also, I move my body, pushing one way and switch my hand to add power."

ON GENERATING POWER: "You have to get in the mindset that you want to kill the ball. It's easy to lose focus in volleyball because its such a mental game. I keep my focus on wanting to win."

NEEDS WORK: Reducing defensive errors.

BIGGEST IMPROVEMENT: Serve receive.

BREAKTHROUGH MOMENT: "My sophomore year when I made the National Team at the Atlantic Volleyball Club. I was one of 12 girls selected from about 40 or 50 high school girls on my club. That's when I knew I had been doing really good. I've been picked for the team every year since."

TOUGHEST OPPONENT: North Hunterdon. "We went to three games both times we lost to them. We need to work on making our serves and not hitting into the block or the net."

KEY TO SUCCESS: "A lot of practice and working well with my teammates."

LISTENING TO NOW: "How to Love," by Little Wayne. "Our whole team listens to him before games. The music gets us pumped up and ready."

SEASON GOALS: "I want to go out successful and not regret anything - to go as far as we can in states and win counties."

COLLEGE: Leaning towards playing D1 at Providence next fall.

FAVORITE SUBJECT IN SCHOOL: Math.

FAVORITE MOVIE: "Titanic."

FAVORITE FOOD: Anything Italian.
